As the 2023 SRO TC America season enters its second act, MINI USA and the MINI John Cooper Works Team are eager to build on their triumphant first-half performance. With a spectacular three-win streak at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) just before the midseason hiatus, Clay Williams achieved an astonishing four consecutive victories in the Touring Car (TC) class aboard the #60 MINI JCW PRO. Notably, Williams currently leads the Driver’s Championship in the TC class, while MINI USA dominates the manufacturer’s championship in the series.

In the upcoming races at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Cristian Perocarpi reunites with Williams in the TC class, taking the wheel of the #37 MINI JCW PRO after his thrilling second-place finish in Race 2 at VIR in July. Joining them this weekend are PJ Groenke in the #62 MINI JCW and Bruce Myrehn in the #64 MINI JCW, competing in the Touring Car A (TCA) class. Groenke, riding the momentum of his first-season victory in the TCA class, is ready to make his mark.

Luis Perocarpi, the team owner of LAP Motorsports based in Brownsburg, Indiana, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “We had a perfect race weekend here at Road America last year, and this weekend marks the beginning of the second half of our 2023 racing season. With PJ coming off his first-ever TCA class win at VIR, with Clay leading the driver’s championship and MINI USA leading the manufacturer’s championship, we are 100% focused on maintaining this performance for the final six races of the year.”

Adding to the excitement, the LAP Motorsports team receives support from a seasoned MINI Dealer technician, Miguel Ponce de Leon from International MINI in Milwaukee, who joins the crew during practice, qualifying, and race days as part of the MINI Technician Race Crew Program. Ponce de Leon’s invaluable expertise has been instrumental in the team’s recent success, making him an integral part of their race-day strategy.

Looking back at the previous season, both nineteen-year-old racers, Williams and Perocarpi, achieved two first-place finishes at Road America, showcasing their dominance on the renowned Midwest road course. Perocarpi’s teammate PJ Groenke in the #62 MINI JCW was right alongside him at the front of the pack in Race 2, securing a memorable 1-2 finish to conclude the weekend.

It’s worth noting that the team wrapped up the last season as the runner-up in the Manufacturer’s Championship in both the Touring Car (TC) and Touring Car A (TCA) classes. Clay Williams, the pilot of the #60 MINI JCW Pro, also claimed a well-deserved 2nd place in the Driver’s Championship in the TC class for the 2022 season.
