The MINI family has gotten complicated. From one model to five in just a few years is just the start. With a few years more MINI will have 9-10 models on dealer lots. The idea is to expand the potential customer base while staying true to the MINI aesthetic and ideals. So with that, let’s take a look at the full list what we expect (based on several inside sources) from MINI in the years ahead. We’re just two days away from the start of MINI’s next race in the World Rally Championship. This weekend both cars will be tearing their way through the scandinavian countryside. Want all the info? Here it is: [Official Release] The MINI WRC Team is aiming to get both its cars to the end of the Neste Oil Rally Finland to give its drivers valuable competitive mileage in their MINI John Cooper Works WRCs. The team has been very busy with an intensive test programme since its World Rally Championship debut two months ago, and it now heads north for the next event on its 2011 agenda on the 28th/29th/30th July. Dani Sordo (ES) and Carlos del Barrio (ES) will again be driving the number 37 MINI, while Kris Meeke (GB) and Paul Nagle (IR) will be in the number 52 car. “Finland is a specialist event, which always suits the style of the local Scandinavian drivers,” explained David Richards, Team Principal. “This early in our programme our primary aim is to put more competitive miles on the cars and to get both drivers through to the finish in strong positions.” This will be the second WRC event on the team’s six-rally schedule, and since its first one in Sardinia has covered approximately 3,000 kilometres in testing on both tarmac and gravel. In the intervening months the MINIs have been in the UK at Cornbury Park and the Goodwood Festival of Speed, testing in Northern Italy, Germany and Finland, as well as taking part in the recce for the Greek WRC round. The Finnish round of the WRC is one of the most famous events on the calendar. While this will be the first time there for the new MINI, in the 1960s the Mini enjoyed numerous successes in Finland. One of the drivers to appear on the podium in those days was Rauno Aaltonen (FI), so it is very fitting he will be at this year’s event supporting the team. One of his duties on the Saturday will be to present a MINI Countryman to two of his fellow Finns, Arttu Pihlainen, the world’s fastest downhill skater, and Peetu Piiroinen, a successful snowboarder. They won these cars, which are being given by BMW Suomi Oy, in races last winter and both have been customised according to the winners’ designs. Dani Sordo: “Finland is a really nice rally and what I would call typical of the sort you would expect in a World Rally Championship. I think I have done it about five times and always enjoy it. I also like the fact there are always lots of spectators, and I think maybe the most on any rally in the championship. It is an exciting rally to do as the roads are fast, we have lots of crests and there are big jumps. You really have to concentrate on all the stages as you are driving flat out, and in many ways it is like being on a race circuit. I was really happy after our test last week in Finland, as the car felt good, so I am going there with a lot of confidence for our performance in this rally.” Kris Meeke: “I have been to Finland twice before, but never in a WRC car. You have to treat this rally with respect, as it is most specific with regards to knowledge and I don’t have that knowledge, so I am going to treat it with caution. On some events you can make the pace notes and then drive a hundred per cent, but not here as there is a third dimension with the jumps. However, I am rally-hungry and can’t wait to get back after the long gap since Sardinia. The three day test we did last week went well, and I had a good feeling coming away from it. At the end of the day, that is what this year is all about, getting to know the car and the events.” History and Background The origins of the Neste Oil Rally Finland or, as it was previously called, the Rally of the 1000 Lakes, can be traced back to 1951 when an event called the Hanko Run was held in the seaside resort of Hanko in southern Finland. But from there it moved to Jyväskylä, which is the capital of Central Finland, for an event that went up to the Arctic Circle. It was in 1954 it was renamed the Rally of the 1000 Lakes. However, it was not until 1973 that it became a round of the manufacturers’ world championship, and then in 1979 the drivers’ world championship. It is sponsored by Neste, the Finnish oil company, and this association goes back as far as 1994. It was in 1997 the 1000 Lakes name was dropped. The event has always been unofficially called the Finnish Grand Prix or the Grand Prix on Gravel. Its stages are well known for big jumps, although in Finland the cars are said to be ‘yumping’. The event, which is being run for the 61st time and includes six new stages, starts on Thursday from its base in Jyväskylä at 16.00. There are three stages before the cars go into parc fermé at 21.15. On Friday service is from 07.30 with the first of eight stages starting at 09.00. There will be a remote service from 13.51 in Lahti, which is in southern Finland and very near Helsinki, and then the first car is due into parc fermé at 22.11. On the final day service starts at 07.00, the first car is due into final service at 20.09 after 11 stages, and the podium ceremony is at 21.00. It’s no secret that we weren’t crazy about the idea of the MINI Countryman when we first heard about it. The very thought of a MINI SUV was repugnant to most enthusiasts, and still is to some. However, now that we’ve driven it, the Countryman has more than won us over. Regardless of where you stand on the fan/hater continuum, there’s one thing we’ve said many times here and on WhiteRoofRadio: MINI needs the Countryman for long-term financial health, and this previous month’s record-breaking sales figures prove it. This Countryman-powered growth is what makes more enthusiast-oriented cars like the MINI Coupé possible. So we were delighted to read that we’re not alone in this opinion. New Countryman owner and obvious MINI enthusiast Aaron has been chronicling his Countryman ownership experience from order to current motoring adventures. The old guard here at MotoringFile should recognize this enthusiasm, as it’s exactly what many of us did back in the day when we ordered our R50s an R53s. Recently, he pointed to a post by automotive commentary and analysis site Good Car Bad Car, going in-depth along the same lines as our long held opinion that the Countryman is critical to MINI’s long-term growth and success. They do a great job diving into the numbers. Don’t go confusing the Countryman with the Honda CR-V or even the Volkswagen Tiguan. VW, for instance, sold nearly twice as many Tiguans as MINI sold Countrymen/Countrymans in May. And for every MINI Countryman sold, Honda sold 9.5 CR-Vs last month, and it was a bad month for the CR-V. But that’s beside the point. MINI doesn’t introduce models intending to take over mass market segments. Anyhow, we’re studying the Countryman’s impact on the MINI fleet. This leads us to discover that, without the Countryman in May, MINI would’ve been down 3.4%. So far this year, the Countryman has helped MINI post an 18.7% improvement. But without the Countryman, MINI’s year-over-year jump is just 6.3%, not nearly as healthy as the overall new vehicle market’s 14% improvement. The full post is definitely worth a read. Particularly interesting is their breakdown of how the Countryman and the Hardtop models are essentially carrying MINI sales at present, as Convertible and Clubman sales decline. MINI is known the world over for clever marketing. The latest concept from Access Agency is a set of life-size inflatable MINI Convertibles ready for beach duty. Intended as much for adults as kids, these oversized pool toys ought to liven up any beach outing. Much more environmental marketing stunt than ad campaign, these hard-to-miss beach accessories are sure to make a splash wherever they show up. How exactly would one use such a thing? Access Agency explains it thus: Beach-goers can just grab one and play in the sand or on the water. They will be able to enjoy the sun, catch the waves, look cool, pose for some pics. These are pictures they will want to broadcast and post online because the beach Minis will not appear on every beach. People will want their friends to know where they are so that they can join the fun. Дорогие форумчане, возник вопрос из зала о структуре и целесообразности существующих тем о Концентрации МИНИ на просторах различных городов. Есть несколько школ мысли. Например: или вот так: или: Если кто не понял, то речь идёт о том, что в подобных темах вывешиваются фотки машин с госномерами людей, которые не давали на это разрешения, или появляется номер в текстовом виде в самом сообщении. В большинстве случаев - это абсолютно безобидная потеха. Но могут быть случаи, когда люди не хотят, что бы весь форум или, в связи с развитием поисковых технологий в интернет, весь остальной мир, знали где и когда они были. Последнее время, многие из приветствий остаются безответными. Тема открылась 6 лет назад, когда большинство МИНИков были клубными, и увидеть соплеменника на дороге было большой редкостью. Теперь... ну вы знаете что теперь. Прошу вас всех внимательно обдумать своё отношение к данному вопросу и проголосовать выше. Команде номер 1 было очень грустно занять второе место. Хоть пол оргов - это моя жена, я очень хотел участвовать и жена не давала никаких намёков на задания. Они всё начало недели шушукались с Закеном. Для пущей честности, я уехал в командировку со среды по пятницу. Движок игры был взят из Питера, где наша команда заняла тоже второе место. Про детали движка знали многие, кто был в Питере на ДР или общался с теми, кто был. Зарегистрировавшись на квесте и прочитав правила, а я спросил: "Все прочитали правила внимательно?", можно было понять, что один из экипажей мог спокойно стартовать в город для получения некой форы в дистанции. Мы пошли немного дальше. Один из экипажей приехал домой и ждал код сидя у 2х компов на скоростном интернете. Получив ключ, мы сразу стартанули немного от места встречи, дабы не попасть в "пробку" стартующих. При этом, мы не стали отъезжать далеко, понимая, что одно из заданий может быть ОЧЕНЬ близко к старту. Мы почти угадали, потому как про нового партнёра - Adidas Originals было написано на Facebook и на сайте Автодома. Прочитав задания, с первого раза отгадали только МХПИ, Адидас и Автодом. Второй экипаж сидел дома, пока не разгадали все головоломки и не раскидали между собой все задания на 2 географические группы. Не смотря на всю подготовку, мы дико ступили с Кунжутом, сначала тоже приехали в Денди, вместо планетария поехали на смотру, но тут был прокол оргов с изменением 4ого задания через 4 минуты после старта квеста, когда как мы уже скопировали себе в почту старое задание. Мы даже взяли подсказку с вопросом на ВВЦ и звонили другу. По любасу респект ребятам из 16, они тоже хорошо подготовились и не тупили как мы. Спасибо Мане и Лёне. Вы молодцы. Спасибо всем участникам за отзывы, у меня уже зачесались руки организовывать следующий квест самому, ради азарта загадывания. Но у нас следующая движуха 6 Августа - 2й Квест от Global Star. Надеюсь, что опять нужно будет нырять в бассейн.
