The new MINI Countryman Diesel Raises the Bar on Diesel Performance and Efficiency With the Introduction of a Mild Hybrid

MINI isn’t letting go of diesel quite yet. The brand has introduced what will likely be its last diesel ever – the MINI Countryman D. But MINI isn’t just checking a box with this model. Instead they’ve brought mild hybrid power to diesel for the first time in a MINI.

Coupled with advanced four-cylinder diesel engine and TwinPower Turbo technology, the mild hybrid unique creates a more economic and smoother driving experience over previous diesels. But how does it all work?

MINI has integrated an electric motor with 48-volt mild hybrid technology into the transmission itself. This architecture is known as a “mild hybrid” due to the fact it’s solely there to help making the internal combustion performance smoother from the moment you turn the new MINI key. Charging the system primarily driven by recovering braking energy, This generates 19 hp electric drive power that helps to make take-offs smoother and supports the driving experience in subtle ways. As a result, the MINI Countryman D reacts more directly at low engine speeds and is also particularly efficient on the move. It also helps to quiet the diesel engine which are typically noisier than their petrol counterparts.

But remember this isn’t a “SD” but just a “D”. That means MINI has focused on a balance of performance and efficiency. The new 2025 MINI Countryman D delivers between 48-51 mpg and has a combined CO2 emissions of 127 — 120 g/km. Despite this efficiency it offers an output of 120 kW/163 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds.

The 2025 MINI Countryman D will be available in certain European markets starting this summer.
