MINIUSA sales Down Early in 2024 Due to Model Changeover

MINI sales in the U.S. totaled 6,369 vehicles in the first quarter of 2024, a decrease of 12.6% vs the 7,284 vehicles sold in the first quarter of 2023. According to MINIUSA and several dealers MotoringFile has spoken with, here’s why.

For starters the change in sales volume for MINIUSA this quarter is attributed directly to the planned 2025 model changeover. MINI USA is currently readying the launch of an entirely new product portfolio later this year and inventory isn’t at ideal levels.

Making matters worse customers have been unable to order new cars until recently. Which brings us to the second issue. A lack of information (beyond MotoringFile) has made it hard for buyers to understand and visualize the new products. While that’s largely solved with the new configurator, cars still aren’t at dealerships.

Finally there’s the real issue of the range on lots (F56 etc) being long in the tooth. Despite the refreshes most of those cars have been around for almost a decade.

Q2 will be equally interesting as MINIUSA will be getting new models but only portion of the range. We won’t have the entire lineup until late summer. And even then the US won’t have the new electric MINI Cooper which likely won’t begin sales until well into 2026.
