Exclusive: 2025 F67 MINI Convertible Won’t Get the New Taillights

The 2025 ICE F67 MINI Convertible is not getting the new, triangular lights that all other small MINIs will be getting in this next generation (starting in 2024). According to sources who have seen the car, MINI will be retaining the current shape of the taillights and offering it on the heavily refreshed F67 convertible as a one-off in the updated ICE MINI range.

Why? According to sources the answer is fairly simple. MINI wasn’t able to fit the mechanical of the new lights in the rear tailgate of the existing tailgate of the convertible. Remember this isn’t an all new car but instead a heavily refreshed version of the F57 and thus wasn’t designed to accommodate the new all LED lights.

The F55 and F56 have enough space that the lighting system can be retrofitted without issues. Thus the updated F65 and F66 will have the exact same triangular rear lights that we see above on the all new J01 electric MINI.

So the 2025 F67 MINI Convertible Isn’t Really New?

MINI is going big on electric cars and has designed an all new electric MINI Cooper (J01) . Because it’s so costly to design and develop new cars they don’t have the capital to design and engineer an all new successor to the ICE (internal combustion engine) F56. So they’re heavily refreshing it with the styling and tech of the J01 with the drivetrain of the F56. This is great news (as long as you don’t want a manual) for those who aren’t ready for electric cars.

The goal is clearly to unify the design language across all models allowing consumers to have a choice that feels strictly about the drivetrain and nothing else. And as you can see below in our exclusive look at the next generation MINI Cooper models, there will still be a lot to choose from.
